Plenty of inspiration, new ideas, and concrete agreements. Major steps forward were made during the two-day REDBAD meeting with the project partners in Emden, Germany, earlier this week. Learning Hub coordinates the Education Program Work Package and works closely with the Research, Exhibition, and Role-Playing Game work packages towards the 2026-2027 school year and beyond.

We are working towards two exhibitions about the historical king of the Frisians, to take place in Leeuwarden in 2026 and in Emden in 2027. This includes two academic publications, a fantastic RPG (interactive role-playing game), and accompanying teaching materials for primary, secondary, and vocational schools. These materials link the events and circumstances of the past (7th century) to today’s context and challenges. Stay tuned! 😉

Want to know more or get involved? Contact Sytske and Frank at Learning Hub. In the first few months of 2026, we’ll be organizing several activities for teachers already, including:

  • exchanges to German schools (Emden/Aurich),
  • incoming missions of German teachers to Friesland,
  • an exploratory day in Friesland about Redbad in the context of education and citizenship,
  • a series of teaching material development sessions with teachers and external experts.

Project REDBAD is carried out within the framework of the Interreg VI program Germany-Netherlands and is co-financed by the European Union, the Niedersächsische Ministerium für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten und Regionale Entwicklung, the Province of Fryslân and the Province of Groningen.
