The European Green Deal is a response to the current climate and environmental challenges. DEAL4EU is a network of 8 different European towns that will promote Green Deal values, objectives, and policies among youngsters in order to make them Green ambassadors in their own home territories. At this regard, DEAL4EU aimed to disseminate the Green Deal among youngsters, improve awareness about environmental and climatic issues, improve knowledge about the role of the European citizens in the Green Deal, and create synergies among European territories and citizens to protect, conserve and enhance the EU’s natural capital, and protect the health and well-being of citizens from environment-related risks and impacts.
Eight thematic international meetings have been organized in Catral (Spain), Berlin (Germany), Novo Mesto (Slovenia), Larnaka (Cyprus), Leeuwarden (Netherlands), Sofia (Bulgaria), Herceg Novi(Montenegro), and Veneto (Italy). The key players were young citizens from each target territory, who worked with experts (i.e. academic professors, bloggers, journalists, etc.) in order to learn about the EU environmental policies and strategies and how to participate in the civic life, become European ambassadors about green strategies in their home town. DEAL4EU aims to involve directly 400 participants and indirectly 20,000 participants.
DEAL4EU was elaborated as a “journey of self-discovery” where “pilgrims” through events determined their own identity about EU GreenDeal. It was based on:-3 events as the “wondering phase,” in which participants explore the EU Green Deal strategy;-3 events as the “construction phase” in which participants reflected on solutions on common challenges and their own civic role;-2 events as “awareness phase” in which participants promoted the Green Deal strategy through strong dissemination activities, also promoting their own messages as EU Green Ambassadors.
